The 2022 Hike for Noah fundraising campaign was a huge success, raising $50,000 for the UCLA pediatric lymphatic team, moving them forward to conduct both research studies. Their research and developments of novel techniques will allow UCLA to provide safer early detection and highly specialized care for kids and adults like Noah.
We thank all of our supporters for believing in our mission to help individuals impacted by these diseases. It is our hope that people experiencing these diseases live longer, better lives.
Our target: $50,000 - FULFILLED
100% of the proceeds from your support will fully fund two research projects
at UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital.
RESEARCH STUDY #1
Image the lymphatics with an oral contrast polymer agent to significantly reduce imaging time and reduce or eliminate need for anesthesia
This study will test their theory of using an oral contrast polymer agent to image the lymphatic system.
Benefits: This will reduce a significant amount of time in the overall imaging process, removing the need for exposure under an MRI, and avoid anesthesia altogether, which reduces risk.
RESEARCH STUDY #2
Study the ability to dynamically image lymphatic system with CT vs MRI
Imaging the lymphatic system through an MRI can take an hour and the child is under anesthesia for this entire time. This poses extreme risk to children who are not doing well. There are also variabilities of the organ positions to deal with by the time the patient is moved to the lab for the second stage of imaging.
Benefits: A CT based lymphangiogram will reduce scan time from one hour to five minutes, reduce or eliminate the need for anesthesia, and provide more accurate organ placement in-between stages.
Total Stretch Goal: $6500 - FULFILLED
